At 3-month follow-up, the main diagnostic groups were: thoracic wall pain 51% (CWS 44.6%, traumatic 4%, divers 2.4%), cardiovascular diseases 16% (coronary artery diseases CAD 12.5%, non CAD 3.4%), psychogenic pain 11%, respiratory diseases 10%, gastrointestinal disorders 8%, and no diagnosis 4%.
In some cases, PE occurred in divers with cardiac disease [7 9].
The etiology of chronic kidney disease was divers: hypertension (n = 7), diabetic nephropathy (n = 4), membranous glomerulopathy (n = 1), rapid progressive IgA nephropathy (n = 1), chronic pyelonephritis (n = 1), polycystic nephropathy (n = 1), nephrosclerosis (n = 1) or unknown cause (n = 7).
These include strong currents and/or wave activity that increase turbulence; the abundance of disease transmission vectors, including fish, divers and vessels; the distance from terrestrial sources of nutrient input; and the time period required to flush the surrounding waters.
