The expression pattern of identical (hence, orthologous) conopeptide genes in C. tribblei and C. lenavati reveals strong conservation of regulatory modes in the two species, although instances of divergence were noted (fig. 6 a).
A striking divergence, however, was noted in 2002, when heavy rains followed 2 years of low malaria incidence at both plantations because of drought (23 ).
However, divergence in postprandial GIP levels was noted, with a reduction seen only in gastric bypass that may be related to anatomical exclusion of the duodenum (which produces GIP) or may be reflective of improved GIP action that is noted to be defective in type 2 diabetes (17).
A divergence in auxin-related gene expression was noted for shading- versus NAA-treated trees.
While the degree of sequence divergence between the intervals appears to be small, it still may be sufficient to account for the variation in fold reduction in crossing over, as large effects due to small changes in divergence have been noted before [60].
Although Tasmania was connected to the mainland as recently as 17,000 years ago at the last glacial maximum [ 66], similar divergence has been noted in a wide range of species [ 67- 69]; in other species, genetic groups span the Bass Strait divide [ 70- 72].
Two caveats to divergence estimates should be noted: 1) The Ks values for the most divergent duplicate genes were for the most part well past saturation (greater than 1) and 2) in the most divergent regions, we cannot be certain that we are comparing homeologs and not paralogs (segmental or single gene duplications) without the context of the whole genome or more sequence in these regions.
Considerable divergence in domain orientation has been noted in comparisons of previous structures of the DID-DD and G-DID-DD fragments of mDia1 [24], [26], [26].
In terms of correlated selection, it has been noted that life history divergence may contribute to population differences in guppy body shape [32], [37].
