The isolated cell is easily identified and localized owing to its clean spikes and the spatial distribution of action potential waveforms across neighbouring electrodes, termed a footprint.
Nevertheless, nowadays, the essential advancement in structural design development proceeds from progressive transition, away from the deterministic understanding of structural system behavior,, towards the statistic and probabilistic approaches to structural reliability, considering the random distribution of action and resistance characteristics.

From Figs. 8a, d, we see that the reliable SEEs for Type II neurons have a distribution of action levels with a significantly larger variance (with a probability below 0.01 for the F statistic comparing variances of Figs. 8a, d).
