Obtaining this measurement was important as the distributional analyses detailed below require the distribution to be unimodal.
At each P(D), 1000 data sets, each consisting of N =50, 100 or 200 randomly chosen test values x, are generated according to the four distributional scenarios detailed in the Methods section.
We will develop the implications of the distributional assumption in detail below.
In summary, our results strongly suggest that at any level of analysis - aggregate statistics, monthly statistics, detailed distributional level and daily time series - IBC and SIGACT reporting differ significantly, most strongly for events with few casualties but also for larger event sizes where aggregate event statistics are comparably more consistent.
Some classifiers make particular distributional assumptions.
Of particular interest, and a phenomenon documented in particularly good detail, are the distributional shifts that accompanied Pleistocene glaciations in many species, some of which are still extant (Martin and Harrell 1957; Lomolino et al. 1989; Roy et al. 1995).
One analysis [ 18] developed a global picture of climate change effects on malaria transmission, but relied on country-level classifications of risk, and did not discern the fine details of mosquito-species-specific distributional shifts.
The normal distributional method has been previously described in detail [ 1] and [ 2].
Given this validation, we visualized both the native and non-native potential distributional areas for each taxon (Figure 1, Table 2), with details as follows.
Presenting details on how MI was carried out may provide insight regarding the distributional assumptions made for variables with missing data, so that the validity of the results can be assessed.
