The remaining 33 families in Ostariophysi are distributed among the orders Cypriniformes (minnows, carps, suckers, and other fishes), Characiformes (characins, hatchetfishes, pencil fishes, and others), Gymnotiformes (electric eels and other fishes), and Gonorynchiformes (the milkfish, beaked sandfishes, and others).
