In Fig. 2, two distinguished regimes are observed, namely the thin-dielectric-layer regime (hh < 100 nm) and thick-dielectric-layer regime (hh > 100 nm).
Stable dislocation motion is found in three distinguished regimes: (i) in a plateau of velocities close to 1.6 km s−1 in the subsonic regime; (ii) in a narrow range of velocities around 2.6 km s−1 in the first transonic regime; and (iii) in the second transonic regime with increasing velocities.
Results have been recorded for a superficial flow velocity range from 0.02 to 0.38 m/s (corresponding to Reynolds number values between 30 and 650), covering – according to available classifications in literature – all distinguished flow regimes inside such porous systems.
By applying this method, all the three regimes were correctly distinguished and void fraction was predicted in the range of 5 95% with error of less than 1.1%.
