Can an app really distil something useful from psychological research and plug you into some life-influencing wisdom?
It's not meant as a criticism of Yankovic to say that his show distilled something of the naffness that still clings, by its fingernails, to musical comedy.
But whether he is paying obeisance to Robert Bresson or anatomising the visceral effects of Speed, what Lane communicates is a conviction, even if it is desperate, that movies aspire to and do sometimes achieve the condition of art, and that all those billions of dollars can occasionally distil something pure, shining and true.
They all say the watermelon scene is iconic, apart from the one who thinks it's a pineapple, while 21-year-old Adelle Burn distilled something else about Dirty Dancing, a subdivision within the sexuality umbrella: "It's on a par with Chicago, but that's raunchy sexy.
But deciding what to call a literary work is as personal and instinctive as naming a child, and presumably – for Ravenhill, Adly Guirgis and Ronder – the expletive-deleted phrases distil something of the theme and attitude of their piece.
Lots of people have resonance with it – which is helpful when you're trying to distil how something feels.
"A good song is like a good poem, in the sense that it has many ideas distilled into something so small," she says.
