Compared with Pd supported on spherical Al2O3 catalyst, Pd/AAO@Al catalysts showed much higher anthraquinone hydrogenation activity and preferable selectivity due to the highly ordered array of cylindrical shaped pores, short diffusion distance and confinement effect of the AAO supports.

In the lower inset of Fig. 3, we present the variation of ωR with respect to its crystalline Raman peak ω0, i.e., Δω ≡ ω0 − ωR, as a function of the inverse of partial confinement distance between pore boundaries (d) in a log log plot.
