It is well known that negative sibling interaction and non-additive genetic effects may give rise to such disparate correlations (Rietveld et al. 2003a, b; Eaves 1988, 1976).
This phenomenon may partly explain the disparate or nonlinear correlation between strength and function in the present and abovementioned studies.
