Congenital dislocation of the spine (CDS) is a rare condition.
Conservative therapy was usually considered when a fracture or dislocation of the spine was absent.
It can be associated with congenital malformation of one or many vertebraes, fracture and/or dislocation of the spine, leg length discrepancy, hormone imbalance, habitual poor posture or by pain and muscle spasms [ 2].
Fractures and dislocations of the spine occur most commonly in the neck, with consequent risk of spinal cord damage; at lower levels the thoracic rib cage makes spinal cord compression less likely.
All previous open fracture dislocations of the spine have been reported in the lumbosacral spine with three posterior and two anterior dislocations.

Patients younger than 18 years of age, with a non-transient loss of consciousness, a Glasgow Coma Score of 12 or less, fractures or dislocations of the spine or other bones, requiring inpatient admission or having a severe psychiatric illness, were excluded.
Exclusion criteria are hospitalization for more than 12 hours after the MVA, fracture or dislocation of the cervical spine and thoracic spine (as determined by X-ray), neurological disorders, head trauma, and inability to read or speak Dutch fluently.
