If the press won't demand disclosure of the preferences of Iowa's Democratic voters on caucus night, who will?
That's because Iowa Democrats shun public disclosure of voter preferences at their caucuses — something not generally reported by the press or understood by the public.
Full disclosure of political preferences, as you did in your column, would provide readers with additional relevant information for them to assess a story, rather than the current approach of "just trust us, we are neutral and objective".
There is an interactive exchange of professional information (evidence on and experience with options, benefits, harms and uncertainties), personal information (circumstances and quality of life issues), deliberation by both parties based on disclosure of values and preferences for the particular situation, and building towards a consensus-based decision with shared responsibility.
Current practice continues to lag behind this empirical evidence of preference for disclosure [ 11- 13].
The OR (patient to healthy) was 0.74 (0.56 to 0.99) for preference of disclosure of near miss ME and 0.40 (0.18 to 0.88) for preference of no-disclosure of ME, although the overall distributions of preferences were not statistically different Thus patients were less likely than healthy individuals to prefer the more extreme choices.

It is unnecessary, however, to decide in this case whether the policies against putting in issue the credibility of the lawyer who will sum up to the jury outweigh the jury's interest in obtaining all relevant information; and whether Jencks v. United States, supra, and 18 U.S.C. s 3500 are to be viewed as expressing a preference for disclosure of all facts.
In our study, females, older peoples, and healthy individuals were significantly more likely to indicate preference for disclosure of near miss ME.
As proposed in a previous report, ADs can be used as directives for disclosure "as a verbal or written declaration from the patient that indicates his or her preference for disclosure of information in the event cancer is diagnosed" [ 26].
