Methodology During the course of the work, senior education staff and national politicians were met; the main documentary sources were reviewed; and five pilot schools in the Project were visited, where parents, teachers, directors, pupils, and trainers (112 in all) were met, lessons were observed and a questionnaire (to 100 children) was administered.
Robert Marchese, director of pupil personnel services in East Hartford, said just one special education student in the district is American Indian this year.
"They make all the difference," said Dr. Celeste Curley, director of pupil services in Hopewell Valley Regional schools.
"It fell through because there was too much mixed feelings around the community," said Michael Mulford, director of pupil services.
Mostly the information has been "stuffed into a drawer," said Dr. George Ziolkowski, the director of pupil personnel services at the East Penn school district.
JeanAnn Paddyfote, director of pupil personnel and special services in New Milford, said that this year the district didn't have any American Indian students in special education.
Sharon Stanton, administrative director of pupil services for the Corona-Norco Unified School Disthect, saidistrictstoppedstopped issuing permits for sign twirlers because of concern for the children's safety.
Marion Edick, the director of pupil transportation services for the State Education Department, said schools would have to spend time and money to plan how to reroute buses or allow taxpayers to decide what size and type of new buses to buy.
Mr. Doyle is a professor and the department chairman of foreign languages and literatures at Western Connecticut State University there, and Mrs. Doyle is the director of pupil services for the Danbury public schools.
"It's a frightening thing for parents," said Robert A. Esposito, the new director of pupil services and guidance at Fairfield High School, whose son, Scott, worked in an Oriental rug store in New Haven before entering the University of New Hampshire.
"Our goal in 1980 was to create a program that used the arts as a vehicle to develop human beings with a real respect for learning," said Charlotte Podolsky, former director of pupil personnel services of the Herricks school district.
