A director pains over every shot, every inch of film, every breath of sound.
At the University of Utah Health Sciences Center, Dr. Michael Alan Ashburn, the medical director for pain programs at the Health Sciences Center, said, "We've made pain a fifth vital sign, along with temperature, pulse, respiration and blood pressure".
His attention focused on the treatment of patients, and as director of pain services, on the expansion of operations and future development of an international pain center.
"It is important not to understate the benefit of these medications," said Dr. Robert Kerns, the national director of pain management for the Department of Veterans Affairs.
The bridegroom's father is the director of pain medicine and a professor of psychiatry, anesthesiology and public health at the Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia.
Dr. Robert D. Kerns, the national program director for pain management at the Department of Veterans Affairs, said in an interview that the department would draw attention to the new findings to push doctors to consider alternatives to opioid therapy, particularly with PTSD patients.
"We don't always know how things work, but that doesn't mean they're a placebo or a sham," said Dr. Mark A. Kallgren, medical director of pain medicine at the Oregon Anesthesiology Group in Portland, who published research last year on the success of topical salicylate cream for muscle and joint pain.
He also served as Director of Pain Services from 1977 to 2006.
