In fact, at B=0, the energy branch corresponding to indirect states starts above the one corresponding to the direct states, and given the faster growth with field of the first one, the direct branch can not reach the indirect one.
Direct branching of the lower pulmonary artery from the thoracic aorta is occasionally observed, such as that in cases of pulmonary sequestration and anomalous arising of the basal segmental artery.
In this second configuration, the Coulomb interaction is too weak to push the direct branch below the indirect one ( V e − h B changes from ∼19 to ∼16 meV).
Thus, studies focusing on understanding the local mechanisms necessary to direct branching and outgrowth are needed to shed light on mechanisms governing dendrite elaboration.
In prepubertal gland, collagen I fibers are oriented towards the long axis of the mammary fat pad, and upon puberty, the branching epithelium follows pre-existing collagen tracks suggesting that the stroma provides spatial cues to direct branch growth [ 28 ].
