In Fig. 4, we exhibit computed displacements at each GPS station caused by dislocation sources at a down-dip point (a), the hypocenter (b), and an up-dip point (c).
If the source locates around the up-dip point, as shown in Fig. 4(c), the eastward displacement at Ka-maishi must be followed by that at Miyako with a few seconds delay.
However, the basinward-dipping point bar strata can be attributed to widespread down-valley translation of point bars in confined north-south oriented valleys, which have previously been delineated in the region.
These flat-lying beds lie directly on top of the gently dipping Point Loma and Cabrillo formations.
