The word "dioxide" is a correct and usable word in written English.
It is a noun used to refer to compounds with two oxygen atoms, such as carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, and oxygen dioxide. For example: "The carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere are rising rapidly."
