For both dimensions items loaded positively as expected and with minimal cross-loading (Table 1), indicating unidimensionality [ 19].
In the Brazilian version of the instrument (Nogueira, Seidl, & Troccoli, 2016), the subscale time dimension (item 8) was withdrawn because it obtained very low factor loads.
We also performed an item-analysis on two separable factors of depression in the BDI; a cognitive affective dimension (item 1-13) and a somatic dimension (item 14-21) [ 20].
For each dimension, item scores are coded, summed and transformed on a scale between 0 (worst) and 100 (best).
For each dimension item scores range from 0 (worst possible health state) to 100 (best possible health state).
In a second analysis, each EQ-5D dimension item was predicted, and the EQ-5Dindex values were subsequently calculated.
Finally, the homogeneity of the dimensions was assessed using convergent validity (correlation of each dimension item with all the other items in the dimension >0.40), divergent validity (correlation of each dimension item with all the other items in the other dimensions <0.40) and correlations between dimensions [ 35].
For example, on the "Adjustment" dimension, item 1 'Vision in general' had uniform DIF on two subgroup variables, i.e. gender and administration mode.
An overview of 21-items gap scores shows that from those five items with highest gap, four items relate to the empathy dimension (items 13, 14, 15, and 17), and one item relates to the tangibles dimension (item 20), confirming the above-mentioned results (see Table 2).
