KDP is a common type of optics that is extremely difficult to polish by the conventional route.
Amongst them, vacuum tubes, wave guides and sanitary tubes are difficult to polish by conventional finishing methods such as lapping, because of their shapes.
On the other hand, Sapphire substrates usually have low loss, but they are usually thick (500 μm) and has high hardness so it is very difficult to polish them into different thickness.
