Spoligotyping (spacer oligonucleotide typing) is based on the variation of the direct-repeat (DR) locus found in the members of the MTBC that enables the differentiation of the members of the MTBC and identification of M. tuberculosis strains.
Therefore rapid and accurate differentiation of the members of MTC is critical in guiding treatment and public health decisions.
