Taxonomic treatments recognize two closely related species with similar morphology but well-differentiated habitats: a rainforest species, L. alata Banks ex C. F. Gaertn., and a savannah species, L. lanceolata Tiegh.
Since A. thaliana shows a large distribution range throughout the Northern Hemisphere [ 7] and grows in highly differentiated local habitats, it is ideally suited to investigate the roles of drift and selection in phenotypic variation.
The detected differences suggested that these two desert poplars might have developed different genetic pathways for adaptation to differentiated salty desert habitats.
In addition, bovins are widespread (naturally occurring on four continents), ecologically differentiated with wide habitat tolerances, taxonomically diverse (around a dozen living species and over 50 fossil), and, given their large size and affinity for wet habitats, possess a high potential for preservation in the fossil record.
A previous study [18] has demonstrated locally differentiated pigmentation in different habitats and lakes over Sweden, as a result of selection for cryptic pigmentation.
These findings are beneficial to allele mining of two poplar species related to their common or differentiated response to stressed habitats in the future.
Two main habitats are differentiated (Wittmann et al., 2002): (i) low-várzea forests, influenced by mean inundations with heights between 3.0 and 7.5 m (corresponding to a mean inundation period of 50 230 days year−1) and (ii) high-várzea forests, influenced by mean inundations with heights of <3.0 m (<50 days year−1).
The higher model performance observed at finer grain sizes was most likely caused by the combination of three factors: (1) high spatial accuracy of bird records and (2) a more precise location and delineation of habitat features and, (3) to a lesser degree, by more habitat types differentiated in maps of finer resolution.
Natural habitats were well differentiated from crops in terms of native plants, but when considering alien plants, muddy line and flood irrigated orchards showed similar floristic composition.
