The complex relationships between disability dimensions and direct care time is illustrated both by the significant interaction effects among disability variables and by the differences in results for different types of care.
Obviously, there are large differences in costs and efficacy of these different types of care.
Consequently, our study may suffer from the typical limitations of observational studies, that is the incomparability of groups: since subjects were referred to the different types of care according to clinical judgements, social and organizational matters, systematic differences may have occurred in baseline characteristics of subjects.
