"I sat glued to the TV for weeks, wondering what to do," he recounted to an audience at a public hall in the "opening rally" of his unorthodox monthlong theater piece "Referendum Project".
He was also told, "We can't control what they may or may not do," he recounted.
"I was with 80 seniors at a senior home called Ann's Choice, in a Republican part of my district, and I was there for over an hour talking to them, doing question and answer," he recounted.
Only once did he slip, when recounting how many people he had killed.
"They even asked knowingly, 'Dylan didn't attend an academic preschool, did he?"' my wife recounted, still gripped with anxiety.
DJ and washing-up powder vendor Danny Baker recounts the tale: "Did he panic?
"I said, 'Officers, you're supposed to do something,' " he recounted with frustration.
"I thought, No way can you bring Lucky Dube with the way you've been doing things," he recounted.
Early on, the D-Lab class in which he met Alawode "helped me learn that I wasn't crazy this was a path others were following, and this is something I could do, too," he recounts.
