Four product types are considered – molecular products, formulated products, devices and functional products.
Also discussed are the special considerations in process design to meet the demand on product qualities for devices and functional products.
In particular, the synthesis of one-dimensional ZnO nano- or microstructures in shapes including rods, tubes, needles, dumbbells, and wires has attracted immense attentions from the research communities due to their potential applications in the optoelectronic devices and functional materials.
For devices and functional products, conceptual product design is carried out by modelling the product based on thermodynamics, kinetics and transport processes, by performing experiments, and by decision making based on experience.
Recently, there has been an extensive study in the direction of search for the materials possessing magnetic as well as the ferroelectric properties because of the richness of physics involved in the system as well as their potential applications in memory devices and functional sensors [1 6].
