The data in both model 1 and 2 were found to be over-dispersed as indicated by deviance factors greater than 1.
For statistical analyses of N-nitrate uptake into oocytes and the effect of treatments on the fluorescence responses, we used analysis of deviance (ANOVA); factors (sample, treatment) were treated as fixed factors.
The significance of each of the factors was obtained by calculating the decrease in deviance when the factor was included in the model (given the null model including age and sex only) and comparing this to the appropriate chi-square distribution.
