The prediction envelopes we created from the multiple regression equations available for NWOR species indicate that model-selection uncertainty expressed as a percentage of the midpoint varied somewhat across all DBH classes and was considerable for the total tree component, even when predictions were strictly limited to the developmental range of the models (approach 2; Figure 1).
As with adaptation more broadly, there can be costs of and limits to adaptive phenotypic plasticity as well, including genetic costs and developmental range limits (DeWitt et al. 1998).
DeWitt et al. [ 24] delineated five costs (maintenance costs, production costs, information acquisition costs, developmental stability costs and genetic costs) and three limits (information reliability limits, lag-time limits and developmental range limits) of plasticity.
Although some of these fry may be able to seek shelter back in the gravel, abrupt exposure to stream environments would be expected to have very different consequences across such a large developmental range.
A possible way of presenting the results of a biomarker metabolite study is provided in Figure 3, in which four of the tissue sections representing a developmental range in the tillering study are profiled with respect to biomarker metabolite variation.
GFP expression was monitored in F1 transgenic embryos, from 24 to 48 hours post-fertilization (hpf), a developmental range that includes the stage homologous to the mouse 11.5dpc stage (the phylotypic stage [ 28]).

However, since the ISSP includes wider geographical and developmental ranges, the education variable is based on tertiles of years of education within each country, age, and sex group, that is, it indicates the level relative to similar individuals.
In the case of BETA conglutins, the expression of pro-protein of predicted size of ~70 kD is higher at the mid-developmental range, and in later time points there is more expression of smaller polypeptides, suggesting post-translation processing is occurring within the maturing seed.
Narrow ranges do not necessarily indicate better agreement between equations; because approach 2 limited equation use to the developmental DBH ranges, narrow ranges usually indicate a scarcity of equations for a DBH class.
Note that although equations which predicted negative values were not excluded from approach 1 unless they were lacking developmental DBH range metadata, very few equations produced negative predictions between 3 to 66 cm.
