At the same time, native groups that once opposed development of the big gas fields near here now spy chances for economic development, and are campaigning for royalties and jobs.
The campaign against the development was run by Jon Golinger, an environmental attorney and longtime activist living on nearby Telegraph Hill.
"House prices are a massive problem in Cambridge," said Richard Taylor, a resident who has been campaigning on the development and related issues since it began.
The Mountaineering Council of Scotland has been campaigning against the development, warning that it would harm an unspoilt landscape.

The latest development is Media Matters' $100,000 ad campaign to persuade advertisers and stations to drop him.
