The structured AD based analysis of the design pathway helped to identify a theoretical framework of guidelines for production system designers.
The ability to pursue many design routes in parallel allowed the exploration of additional useful concepts, for instance the use of engineered protein scaffolds to optimize the relative activities of enzymes along a designer production pathway [ 55], or the importance of subtle balancing of enzyme activities along a pathway for optimal production [ 56,57 ].
