The Summer Student Programme offers students with at least 3 years of undergraduate physics, engineering, or computing education the opportunity to spend 2 or 3 months at CERN, working with a project team and attending some specially designed lectures.
The teaching learning skill sessions included specially designed lectures, (2 hours, 17%), small group teaching (3 and a half hours, 29%), role plays (3 and a half hours, 29%) and critiqued teaching (3 hour-25%).

In this contribution, a new approach to design lectures using active learning is proposed.
Presenting too much information can be detrimental to student learning, and instructors should design lectures that incorporate questions and discussions into a reasonable spread of material and activities.
