The E. coli strain DH1ΔilvE::(dsred.T3-cat), designated I–, was constructed from the E. coli strain DH1 (National BioResource Project, National Institute of Genetics, Shizuoka, Japan), by replacing the chromosomal ilvE gene with a foreign DNA fragment, PtetA-dsred.T3-Pcat-cat, comprised of a reporter gene (dsred.T3) and the chloramphenicol resistance gene (cat).
