From the analysis of the shapes of the log Pe pH plots, a method to improve the selection of the assay pH, called pKaflux optimized design (pOD-PAMPA), was described and tested.
"We knew that with such a short turnaround, from nothing to a design pod that's built in nine months, we needed people who had at least a basis of skills," says John Mayo, SM '16, project manager for the MIT Hyperloop Team and one of its founding members.
The location of the Design Pod used to be home to the Blue Express Cafe.
Nursing students had brought the project to the Design Pod teams because the skin on the old arms felt too rubbery and unrealistic.
The arm was one of the projects in development at the Pratt School of Engineering's new Design Pod, a makerspace that's home to an innovative new course for first-year engineering students.
"Professor Saterbak and I are collecting feedback from all of the involved groups faculty, TAs and students to see what we can do in the next iteration of the course to make sure it's a meaningful, inspiring, and effective course!" While the engineering community's response to the new Design Pod has been positive, the introduction of the design class and Design Pod caused mixed reactions for some.
To help the course achieve its ambitious goals, the Design Pod was outfitted with workbenches, rapid prototyping machines such as laser cutters and 3-D printers, and various other power and hand tools that allow first-year students to gain knowledge about the engineering design process.
The Design Pod did look really cool from what I saw though, so I'm glad to see that the space is being put to good use," said Mao. Upperclassmen engineering students were disappointed that they didn't have the same opportunity to take the class as freshmen.
Through efficient design, POD testers with up to 100 individual specimen stations are now available [ 18], which can evaluate a potentially statistically relevant sample size for biotribological simulations.
