Research studies have described delayed colonic transit in the elderly, 36– 38 whereas others have described no significant difference in colonic transit between the elderly and younger patients.
Contrary to the above reports, Van Den Bosch et al. described no significant difference in the levels of VEGF-A in the spinal cord of SOD1G93A mice when compared to wild-type controls [ 203] and Murakami et al. reported a higher VEGF expression level in the spinal cord of SOD1G93A mouse [ 204].
The remaining literature describes no significant differences in complication rates between simultaneous and two-stage bilateral THA.
