The ELISA method used to support later NHL studies used a statistically derived cut point factor of 1.48, which was based on analysis of 20 individual NHL sera and the 95% upper confidence limit.
Based on results from an affinity-purified anti-G544 antibody, relative assay sensitivity was estimated to be 1690 ng/mL in 100% serum when a cut point factor of 2 was used, which improved to 80 ng/mL with a statistically derived cut point of 1.48.
But we did not, in the literature, find any DXA derived cut off points for children related to biological endpoints.
Also different statistical methods have been used in previous studies, which has an important effect on derived cut points (5, 7).
However, for comparison we derived cut point values, given in Table 4, which represent the point at which the biomarker value is equally likely to be normal or abnormal, and should therefore be similar to existing biomarker cut points.
To determine the dose-response association of sitting time and TV viewing time with cardio-metabolic risk, sex-specific quartiles of sitting and TV viewing time were derived (cut points for sitting time in women: 3.35, 4.85, and 6.78 h/day; and men: 3.78, 5.49, and 7.49 h/day; cut points for TV viewing time in women: 0.85, 1.63, and 2.49 h/day; and men: 1.06, 1.78, and 2.63 h/day).

Study 1 compared 13 scoring criteria in their accuracy for identifying the presence of the NFR, then generated empirically derived cut-points for the best criteria, and examined the test retest reliability of NFR thresholds derived from these cut-points.
The standard method of scoring is that symptomatic responses are scored '1' and non-symptomatic responses are scored '0' (Goldberg, 1992; Goldberg et al., 1997), resulting in overall scores ranging from zero to 12. Mean derived cut-off thresholds are considered the most appropriate method of identifying current poor psychiatric well-being (Goldberg et al., 1998).
We calculated statistically derived cut-off values for detection of all possible mutations at each position.
This was subsequently refined by the use of epidemiologically derived cut-offs from the distribution of wild-type susceptibilities in large numbers of antiretroviral-naïve patients [10].
The number of variants ranged from 221 to 1729 in the six patients, but most variants were only represented by a small number of reads and their frequency did not exceed the statistically derived cut-off values for detection of high-confidence variants (see Materials and Methods).
