In recent weeks this relationship has blossomed into the large-scale American deployment of Special Forces units and aircraft on what was once enemy soil.
The unexpected deployment of First Brigade units will fill a gap that arose after commanders decided that an Army National Guard brigade from Washington State needed more training, officials said.
