The falloff reflects the crumbling of a key state-run Iranian industry, one that planners had hoped might one day help diversify an economy that remains highly dependent on energy.
The former is fast and dependent on energy (active transport), while the latter shows no temperature dependence (passive transport).
That surge in raw materials is one reason that fast-growing markets like China and India — which are increasingly dependent on energy imports — have taken a beating in recent months.

"Much of life is dependent on energy," says Ron Crane, who recently established a professorship to support energy-related research.
It said rising global oil and raw materials prices were emerging as a fresh risk for the country, which is highly dependent on energy imports.
But "the New Jersey economy and national economy are much less dependent on energy than they were a decade ago and two decades ago," Mr. Seneca said.
