After four years of developing the business, building the greenhouse and refining growing techniques, Lufa Farms has started delivering baskets of produce to local subscribers: $22 for a six-pound basket and $30 for a basket weighing about nine pounds.
The Regent has 144 rooms, including 47 suites, and all the touches money can buy, from 52-inch televisions to attendants who deliver baskets of rose petals for an evening bath.
The company partners with local cheese, charcuterie, and wine shops to provide high-quality goods for the baskets, and uses a courier service to deliver baskets in about 30-45 minutes.
Between now and Christmas our club members will set up a tree on Main Street, deliver baskets of food to the needy, send cigarettes to the Veterans Hospital and stage an annual holiday home decoration contest.
The BCC will then need of volunteers to help deliver baskets from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Dec. 16.

Jim's mother, a civic activist extraordinaire, was killed in a car crash on New Year's Eve several years ago, as she was delivering baskets of food to poor people and drove off an icy and snowy road.
Our second major hero is Washington Elementary School, which deserves huge kudos for allowing us to use the auditorium and the hallways and the outdoor lunch area in order to pack families' donations and to deliver baskets throughout the city.
Members will collect donations from the public at grocery and drug stores on Dec. 1 and 8. Volunteers are also needed to help put baskets together from 3 to 8 p.m. Dec. 14 at Washington Elementary School auditorium, 2322 N. Lincoln St., and to deliver baskets from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 15 in the Washington Elementary lunch shelter.
