Even though the LW algorithm was used for ground truth construction, observers were expected to manually correct the resulting delineations in order to follow the standards of the state-of-the-art ground truth construction techniques [19, 20].

In this case, accurate tumour delineation is extremely important in order to focus the dose on viable tumour tissue, thereby sparing surrounding normal tissue and allowing a higher radiation dose to the target region.
There is a need, however, for further delineation of species-specific differences in order to increase predictability of how findings from a murine strain may translate to a human population [ 14].
Current staging paradigms focus, first, on a detailed delineation of the primary tumour in order to determine its suitability for resection, and, thereafter, on assessment of the presence of metastatic spread that would alter the surgical approach, or mandate non-surgical therapies.
With IMRT, delineation of the RP is explicitly required in order to include it in the treatment volumes.
In addition, FDG-PET images may now be incorporated into radiotherapy planning in order to refine the delineation of dose according to metabolically active sites of disease.
