While the Cotsen Children's Library does not have a copy of Mirth without Mischief (London: Charles Sheppard, ca. 1780), where the rhyme made its first appearance in print, it has a delightful one issued ca. 1810 by of all people the disreputable printer James Pitts in the notoriously seedy Seven Dials district of London.
After an Lithuanian interior ministry "specialist" published an article proclaiming the Holocaust to be a "legend" (he, at least, has since resigned), seven European ambassadors, from Britain, Estonia (this one a truly delightful surprise!), Finland, France, Netherlands, Norway and Sweden issued a bold letter of protest.
In fact, we think the whole damn world is a haven of delightful, tap-dancing Big Issue sellers, coked-up smurfs and murder dogs staring non-plussed at burning buildings as excited people sprint down the street jabbering away on their mobile phones.

That stands in contrast to Eggers' first book, the monumental memoir "A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius," which despite dealing with serious issues was a delightful, giddy, exuberant work.
