This value is equivalent, for instance, to a water stream containing 2% w/w n-hexane, 2.4% w/w 1-hexanol or 3.2% w/w hexanoic acid, depending on the oxidation degree of the compound.
In Croes et al. [31], the weight of compound vertices is set equal to the degree of the compound in the network, biasing the search against going through highly connected compounds.
The output from this step is a network in which stoichiometric coefficients are changed, edges are replaced and, consequently, the degrees of the compounds are altered, while the reaction degrees and mass balance of all reactions are preserved (see Supplementary Fig. S1 for an overview and comparison to switch randomization).
Multinuclear NMR studies prove high degree of fluxional behavior of these compounds in solution.
Our results suggest that in comparison with resveratrol and isorhapontigenin, treatment with heyneanol-A can protect hematopoietic cells from IR-induced damage to a greater degree; the protective effects of these compounds are probably the result of their antioxidant properties.
It was also observed that in both male and female human cell lines, the degree of AHH inducibilities of these compounds were roughly parallel to that of 3-methylcholanthrene, possibly indicating that genetic susceptibility among human population to the toxic compounds are also present similar to those reported among mouse strains.
Several imidazole and guanazole derivatives of pinanamine were found to inhibit WT A/M2 to a comparable degree as amantadine and one of these compounds 12 exhibits weak inhibition of A/M2-S31N mutand and it is marginally more effective in inhibiting S31N M2 than amantadine.
Also, the high degree of correlation between many of these compounds limited our ability to examine independent effects.
The antagonistic activity in both cases, however, has been shown to depend on the cellular context that determines the degree of the antagonist/agonist activity of these compounds, which relies on the balance between expression and availability of coactivators and corepressors and the context of specific target promoters available in any given cell type [ 24].
Furthermore, a comparison between the species R. maritima and H. wrightii collected from environments with different salinities suggested that the sulfated polysaccharide concentration and the degree of sulfation in these compounds are regulated by the salinity in the environment (Fig. 3).
