The last item GE2 ("I am satisfied with how I am coping with my illness") had a correlation coefficient of 0.08 with its own subscale EWB, which was significantly smaller (P = 0.04) than its correlation with the FWB subscale (r = 0.43), fulfilling the definition of a definite scaling error [ 28].
This implied that all items achieved "definite scaling success" (Table 2).
However, the determination of a definite scaling exponent for the domestic canine species was not the aim of this study.
The recommended criterion for definite scaling successes are item-own scale correlations (corrected for overlap) exceeding item-other scale correlations by at least two standard errors (2 × 1√n) [ 17].
It was also associated with a definite scaling error implying that item GE2 should be included in the FWB subscale rather than the EWB subscale when FACT-Ga is used in Chinese GC patients [ 28].
Item discriminant validity was assessed by analyzing correlations between the items and their domains (item-total) and between the items and the other domains (item-other) to see if the former was at least two standard errors higher than the latter, thereby indicating definite scaling success [ 26].
The SSHS was originally created using both wind speed and storm surge, but since the relationship between wind speed and storm surge is not necessarily definite, the scale was changed to the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale (SSHWS), based entirely on wind speed.
Here, micro- and macro- do not refer to any definite length scale but to different levels of complexity or different levels of abstraction (Section 1.2.1).
Moreover, the corresponding hyperparameters are chosen so that the parameters reflect prior ignorance: where W P (R, b) indicates a P-dimensional Wishart distribution with a positive definite inverse scale matrix R, and b degrees of freedom.
