TB cases were categorized in to new, relapse, failure, default, transferred in and other cases before treatment was begun in all the five years.
Outcomes were compared by using the χ test or Fisher exact test (categorical variables) in cases achieving a final outcome (different from default, transferred out, or still on treatment), and by using the Kaplan-Meier curve where appropriate.
Definitions of TB treatment outcomes were according to standard World Health Organization (WHO) definitions [ 18, 19]: Cured, treatment completed, default, transfer out or died.

The response rate of this study at both points (baseline and end point) was 100%, except for those who defaulted, transferred out, or died.

The independent variables considered for the analysis were age, sex, type of TB, patient category (new, relapse, failed, return after default, transfer in, and other); AFB smear result and treatment start and stopped date.
In the present study, TB cases were followed from the time they initiated treatment until they stopped treatment for any reason, such as a death, default, transfer, move, or successful completion of therapy.
