Most short-term SSEs occur at a depth of ≤50 km, but some exceptionally deep events occur along the Ryukyu Trench.
Red circles show the hypocenters of the deep events, while blue circles show the locations of the reflection points corresponding to the X phase (interpreted as the Moho).
