The phrase "decreased downwards" is not grammatically correct and should not be used in written English.
The use of "downwards" is redundant as "decreased" already implies a downward movement or decrease. Correct alternatives to this phrase could be "decreased gradually" or "decreased steadily". Example: The number of participants in the study decreased steadily over the span of three years.
The conductivity within each of the three lowermost sequences is similarly decreasing downwards, whereas the uppermost sequence is having no conductivity at all because of being above the groundwater table.
The clay percentage decreases progressively downwards through the formation, producing a GR signal that decreases.
