Recently, the application of auricular acupuncture according to the NADA protocol has been further expanded: in a recent study, traumatized refugees in Kenya were stabilized mentally by this treatment [ 8]. 130 prisons in England use this protocol and showed a decrease of physical assaults up to 80% [ 9].
Conversely, three studies (Gerberich et al. 2005; Farrell et al. 2014; Landau and Bendalak 2008) report that the use of personal protective equipment (mobile phone or personal alarm) and access to an emergency button may be associated with some decreased risk of assault.
As the youth population has decreased, so has the number of assaults by staff.
