Withdrawal from medication overuse causes significant decrease in central sensitization.
In an open, randomized study of 216 children with allergic rhinitis with or without asthma, Marogna et al. showed a decrease in new sensitizations in children receiving SLIT (3.1%) versus controls (34.8%; odds ratio, 16.85; 95% CI, 5.73 49.13).
Marked sensitization was again observed, with only a slight decrease in extent of sensitization (~2 fold) compared to a 24 h concurrent treatment.
