As Gary Stuggins, recently retired executive vice president of the World Bank, shared with me, there's an "underlying force" that's causing organizations worldwide to rethink their approach to planning, decision-making, engaging with employees, and interacting with clients.
The reasons behind delegating the choice to another person need to be explored at a clinical and psychosociocultural level through collaborative decision-making, engaging patients, their family, and several members of the multi-disciplinary care team.
Engage, inform, and win over key gatekeepers and opinion leaders (for example, through early, one-on-one informational briefings and exchange of views with leaders in the pediatric community); foster and support champions who are well placed to influence opinion and decision-making; engage potential local pharmaceutical producers early.
These include: addressing decision-making norms, engaging in intergenerational dialogue, and designing contextually appropriate communication strategies.
UNICEF has been encouraging an open and inclusive decision-making process, engaging civil society, the media, the private sector, academics and other national actors with national policy makers to help forge a consensus protecting the well-being of children.
6. Advocating for children's rights At UNICEF, we recognize the important role that the private sector plays in helping change the way people do business – and that includes helping to shape policies, influence decision-making and engaging with senior leaders in the best interests of children.
Social scientists like to say that good decision-making groups engage in "task conflict," fighting over the best solutions to particular problems, while bad ones engage in "relationship conflict," interpreting differences of opinion as differences of character.
Clarity and agreement about team objectives were key to clinical team effectiveness, along with a participative approach to decision-making that engaged all team members.
They provide basic services to majority rural population, record and report health information from the villages and provide it to health managers and policy makers for better decision-making, and engage the community in strengthening the health system.
This means that governments and policy-makers need to explain and justify the values that underlie decision-making and engage the public in discussions about ethical choices, so that when difficult decisions arise in the face of uncertainty, they will be accepted as fair and essential for the public good [ 47].
Collaborative management, or co-management, demonstrates a level of participation 'characterized by (i) involving a wide range of stakeholders, (ii) an equal opportunity for participants to voice their concerns and influence the decision-making group, (iii) engaging participants in consensus building, and (iv) requiring a sustained commitment to problem solving' (Prager 2010; Margerum 2008).
