A finite element - decaying wave method is used to determine the frequency response of various simplified fuselage structures.
Unlike their uncoupled metallic counterparts, the wavenumbers for propagating and decaying wave components are no longer the same due to material coupling.
However, this can cause numerical difficulties if the structure is rather long, because a decaying wave appears as a growing wave in the opposite direction and, since propagations in both directions must be accounted for in the analysis, computational errors associated with the apparent growing waves also grow and the numerical results become meaningless.
Conventional lenses can never be perfect because they always fail to refocus the light that comes from the object under investigation in the form of decaying waves.
Douglas scale, either of two arbitrary series of numbers from 0 to 9, used separately or in combination to define qualitatively the degree to which the ocean surface is disturbed by fresh waves (sea) generated by local winds, and by decaying waves, or swell, propagated from their distant wind sources (see Table).

Here the question is posed: what is the equivalent of points per wavelength for growing or decaying waves, and how well are such waves resolved numerically?
The problem of localized vibration modes on a polymer chain with a symmetry breaking defect is formulated as a finite sum of exponentially decaying waves on the polymer.
