The advantage of immunoresolvents would be to limit continued neutrophil infiltration, counter-regulate pro-inflammatory mediators, enhance the containment and phagocytosis of cellular debris and apoptotic neutrophils, and promote restoration of tissue homeostasis (Box 1).
