The survey items were spread across eight domains: ED environment, clinician skills and roles, treatment, interdisciplinary collegial interaction, systems factors, views on death and dying, priorities for intervention and learning needs with further items including demographic details and access to PC services and education.
Such communication is especially pressing in the context of advanced illness, when the achievement of a peaceful death assumes priority over inappropriate prolongation of dying.
"This conference comes at a critical moment to accelerate progress in newborn survival, by galvanizing efforts to mobilize governments, donors, local partners and communities to make newborn deaths a top priority," said Ms. Koki Agarwal, Director of USAID's flagship Maternal and Child Health Integrated Program (MCHIP).
Complications of preterm birth, birth asphyxia, infections, diarrhoea, tetanus and congenital abnormalities have been extensively reported as the leading causes of neonatal deaths for which priority investment is urgently required to build requisite national capacity to effectively address these conditions [ 1].
