This was then used to scale the ClonalFrame trees to estimate dating and dating intervals around the time to the most recent common ancestors (TMRCA) in the trees.
The topology of the resulting tree within S. mediterranea was the same as that obtained in the previous analysis, and node ages and dating intervals between the three groups were consistent in both analyses.
However, there was then a sharp decline to only four sites dated to the interval 2,000 1,500 BC, after which these islands appear to lack subsequent occupation until the Chinese historical period, within the past 1,000 years.
Mousterian industries appear in Europe as early as around 200,000 to 150,000 years ago and possibly earlier in the Near East, but most sites are dated to the interval from about 130,000 to 30,000 years ago.
As the frequency intervals to date have been associated with neurogenic, myogenic, NO-dependent, and NO-independent endothelial activity, the study clearly shows potential for a multitude of future investigations.
