First, you can remove 18 specific identifiers from the data record, which include things such as name; a geographic location smaller than a state; all dates related to the individual such as birth date, admission date, or date of death; social security number; and medical record number.
In the studies conducted to date, admission to hospital following Emergency Department discharge for CAP is between 1.5-8.5 1.5-8.5n 30-days [ 6, 8, 10, 12, 13].
The data contained within the NPR can mainly be categorised as patient-related data (eg, personal identity number, sex), administrative data (eg, visit date, admission and discharge dates) and medical data (eg, diagnosis and procedure information).
All data including gender, age, admission and discharge date, admission diagnosis and the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation II (APACHE II) score at patient's admission to the ICU were recorded.
For each episode of bacteremia, we collected the following data: date, admission ward, sex, age, type of intravascular device (peripheral or central), parenteral nutrition, surgical operation, bacteria or fungi, severity of underlying diseases and clinical progress.
For each patient, information was collected on their sex, age, ICU admission date, admission source and diagnosis (based on the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE) II [ 7] diagnosis codes) and whether resuscitation fluid or blood products were prescribed.
Examples of attributes for dates include admission date, date of last menstrual period, or date of preceding diagnosis (see Additional file 1, page 32).
The admission cost, ICU admission and discharge dates, admission and discharge dates, and major admission comorbidities were all recorded.
Details collected included date of admission, indications for admission, the date and time of procedures requested (diagnostic/therapeutic), referrals made, date of planned and actual discharge, and LOS.
VSE cases and controls were matched with VRE cases according to date of admission (within 2 years of VRE case admission date), and where possible, unit of admission.
We included only emergency hospitalizations and used date of admission to calculate daily numbers of admissions.
